Beyond Moving: Where Does the Surplus Go?

Sustainable solutions for managing surplus items.

One of Prolocate’s main goals is to be more than just a relocation partner—we strive to support our clients in sustainability as well. The professional disposal of surplus office furniture and equipment is especially important—not only for space efficiency but also for environmental protection. Different material types—wood, metal, textile, plastic—require different handling, and regulations in Hungary are strict, particularly within the MOHU (MOL Waste Management Ltd.) coordinated system.

Steps to Environmentally Conscious Disposal:

Wood: New Life Through Shredding
Wood-based items—such as desks, cabinets, or storage units—are always shredded. 95% of the resulting shredded material is used to produce particle board, giving the wood a second life in furniture manufacturing.

The process is strictly monitored and follows the Hungarian system managed by MOHU, with the destruction and recycling documented via official weight certificates.

Metal: Valuable Secondary Raw Material

Metal components—like legs, locks, or frame parts—are collected selectively and can be recycled.
At Prolocate, we:

  • Sort metals by type (iron, aluminum, others),
  • Deliver the scrap metal to a licensed Hungarian processor,
  • Ensure every step of the process is traceable and certified.

This not only benefits the environment but also supports our clients' ESG compliance.

Textiles: Selective Dismantling, Conscious Decisions
Upholstered furniture, fabric dividers, or acoustic panels require special attention during disposal. In Hungary, the process is as follows:

  • Sorting: Non-recyclable materials are removed.
  • Clean textiles: Sent to our recycling partner.
  • Contaminated or hazardous textiles: Destroyed by a specialized processor according to MOHU regulations.

Plastics: The Type Matters
The fate of various plastic items—chair parts, cable ducts, plastic trays—depends on the type of plastic:

  • Selective collection: After identification, only recyclable plastic is returned to circulation.
  • Plastics requiring special treatment (e.g. PVC): Only waste handlers licensed by MOHU may perform destruction.
  • In all cases, we provide official weight certificates and documentation.

  • Ensure compliance with official Hungarian procedures,
